About the D.O.T. Fee
Whenever you purchase or retain a private registration, the government charges an £80 fee, which must always be paid straight away (by law), regardless of when your transfer to a vehicle is completed.
Paying it is NOT optional and has to paid immediately to avoid the private registration sale being delayed.
People sometimes think this fee is for the First registration for a brand new or imported vehicle, but it is not and is a totally different fee.
This fee covers the cost of producing a new V5 registration document, updating government databases and notifying all government departments such as VOSA and the Police.
The D.O.T. (assignment fee) is zero-rated for VAT so no VAT is added to it.
